What We Do

At Nova Yoga Edinburgh you will find Yoga Classes, Yoga Workshops, Full Moon Circles and Teacher Trainer, including CPD workshops.

What can you expect in a Yoga class?

You’ll always see a welcoming face and practise in a supportive environment no matter your choice of Yoga Class. Yoga really can differ from teacher, style, class time, the warmth of the studio, even to how you are feeling, so it’s a good idea to try out a few yoga classes while you decide what suits you best. You are the most important person when it comes to your own yoga practise, and we want to make sure you shine as bright as you can.

Yin Yoga is slower, poses are typically floor based, often using props. We delve deep into the fascia, and meridians of the body. Yin Yoga helps with flexibility, and calming the mind. If you are too busy, you probably need a Yin class.

Vinyasa Yoga is a movement with breath based class, and can really vary from fast to slow, gentle to high energy. It is also called Flow Yoga, and you’ll soon find your feet with Vinyasa, and your favourite instructor. Expect to move, expect to groove, and expect to fall in love.

Hatha Yoga is different with every instructor, although it is largely based on breath being the central focus. Breath is life, Hatha yoga is life! Expect to start slowly and build your practise, enjoying being on your mat.

Yoga Nidra is often called Yogic Sleep, as you rest, held and supported, under a blanket, being guided through a full body relaxation. It is deeply restorative and nourishing, enabling our mind to rest as in deep sleep, and REM sleep, both important for the healthy functioning of our body and its support system.

Restorative Yoga is exactly what you think it is, restorative and nurturing. You hold poses for longer, sometimes 10-15 minutes. These Yoga poses are specifically developed to support your central nervous system, helping to eliminate cortisol production in the body, and therefore stress. It helps your body repair itself, and your mind feels the benefits.

Meditation should be practised daily, even if it is only for a few minutes. It’s ideal to start your day with a check-in with yourself, and your inner chatter. Classes can differ from meditation with a group, or more in the form of a sharing circle, where we meditation and are given the opportunity to share. We are always save and supported in these classes, and absolutely everyone is welcome.

What should I bring to the studio?

Our studio is fully equipped and designed with all the equipment that you need for a yoga class. But, feel free to bring & use your own mat, if you wish to use your own. A water bottle is also handy, and you can top up here for free.

What should I wear to a Nova Yoga Class?

It really is up to you what you wear to yoga, but you’ll need to make sure you can move comfortably, and rest comfortably. You do not need fancy Yoga clothes, but feel free to wear your best Yoga pants! Tracksuit bottoms and a loose t-shirt are perfect, as are leggings, vest tops, sports bras, and tank tops. It’s a good idea to make sure you can tuck clothing in, as we move our body upside down, clothing can move the same way!

What if I’m not flexible enough to do Yoga?

The good news is, you are! Every single body can benefit from Yoga, that’s why it has gained such a huge popularity. Remember that everyone had to start somewhere, every successful person once was a beginner, so please don’t think you cannot practise Yoga. Come to our beginners class, or simply tell the instructor that you are new. We heartily welcome new faces at Nova Yoga Edinburgh!

Full Moon Circles

Full Moon Circles celebrate the Full Moon, and are wonderfully nourishing evenings! We come and celebrate the zodiac sign of the moon as it moves through the year. We use Meditation, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Nidra specifically around the Zodiac sign to embrace this celestial time. Spaces are limited, and warming tea and snacks are included.

Teacher Training and CPD Workshops

We are so proud to bring our unique Yoga Teacher Training to Edinburgh all the way from Los Angeles, California. The Wellness of Oz Yoga Studio is fully registered with Yoga Alliance, and the connection between our two studios spans 25 years. Lead Yoga Teacher Trainer, Ozzie Aziz, doesn’t just train Yoga Teachers, she is passionate about training Lightworkers, people who bring their unique skillset to others, in the form of Yoga.

Our Yoga Teacher training in Edinburgh offerings are 100 HR, 200HR, and 300HR as well as Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training.

Our CPD workshops are varied, from Yoga Nidra, Yin, Chakra, Mantra, Kriya, Reiki, Pranayama, Chanting to Anatomy and Physiology. Yoga teachers need a certain amount of hours to keep their Yoga Alliance or Yoga Alliance Professional membership active, and it is our pleasure to offer workshops for fun, education and our own personal growth.
